Under a pink and purple sunrise, watching the sun come up and turn the dark clouds into the most glorious looking cotton candy, it was hard to remember the world was being ransacked by a virus. Looking up at that giant sky as I filled water buckets for the animals, I felt extremely small. A small person in the midst of a giant universe, with giant problems. I think we’ve probably all felt a little small these last few weeks.
It seems everyday there is another breaking news alert. The death toll is heart-breaking. Life as we know it is on pause. Some people are sympathetic. Some are bonding over circumstance with others online. Some don’t realize what a big deal this actually is. But the majority are unsure. The future looks so unknown right now.
It can be a time where people start to feel a little hopeless.
My hope is to encourage you a little bit today.
But first, I want you to take three deep breaths. I’m serious. Stop what you’re thinking about, stop reading this blog, and take three deep breaths, in and out.

Now focus and slowly read these words.
Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Psalm 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
And, my personal favourite and the one I put on a sticky note by my kitchen sink:
James 4:8
“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners….”
This world is in chaos, and no matter your beliefs, sometimes it’s nice to think we don’t have to have all the answers. That a being larger and wiser than us in control. That is what gives me hope.
Please join me in praying for a swift end to this virus, for God to touch the hearts of those who are fearful and brokenhearted, and to draw near to those who are suffering.
